Moscow will press for what it calls a resolution of the “territorial issue” during the first Ukraine-U.S.-Russia trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi on Jan. 23, said Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, according to Kremlin’s propaganda agencies Interfax and TASS.

Russia will continue on the battlefield until a diplomatic settlement is reached.

The meeting in the United Arab Emirates was confirmed shortly after the talks at the Kremlin between Putin, U.S. president Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner late on Jan. 22. The Kremlin described the four-hour meeting as "exceptionally substantive, constructive, and...extremely frank and trusting," yet they cast doubt on the possibility of a breakthrough.

Ushakov told reporters that the talks were “useful in every respect”, adding that it was “agreed that the first meeting of a trilateral working group on security issues will take place today in Abu Dhabi.”

The Russian delegation will be headed by Gen. Igor Kostyukov, director of Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian team will be led by his Office Head Kyrylo Budanov and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
