A series of overnight explosions followed by fires were reported by the mayor of the Western Ukrainian city of Khmelnytskyi, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, after a massive Russian air assault on Sep. 3.
Air defense systems operated throughout the night.
Several buildings were damaged. Emergency efforts are underway. Utility services are on site dealing with the aftermath.
There have been no reported casualties.
Overnight, Russian forces launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles at Ukraine, primarily targeting the energy grid and railway infrastructure. Western Ukraine was the main focus of the attack.
Earlier that day, Kirovohrad Oblast Governor Andriy Raikovych reported a Russian attack on the railway infrastructure of Ukraine’s railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia in the city of Znamyanka. At least 5 people were hospitalized with injuries.
