Russian airstrike damages Kyiv schools as new academic year begins

The schools, located in the Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, sustained damage to their windows. Municipal workers are duly addressing the aftermath of the attack.

Despite the damage, the educational process in these institutions has begun, according to the city authorities.

Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic, cruise missiles, and drones on the morning of Sept. 2. The air defense system intercepted around 20 targets.

Debris from the attack was recorded in eight districts of the city, with three people injured.

In the Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiyivskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts, non-residential buildings and vehicles were damaged. Among the damaged structures were a mosque in Nyvky and the building of the Islamic Cultural Center of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Additionally, the glass facade of the Sviatoshyn metro station was damaged, but it continues to operate normally.

In total, the Russian military launched 58 targets across Ukraine on Sept. 2, including 16 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95 bombers, and Shahed drones. Ukraine's air defense system intercepted nine Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles, 13 Kh-101 missiles, and 20 Shahed UAVs.
