Russian forces continued heavy attacks on May 8 despite the Kremlin declaring a two-day ceasefire, using drones and heavy aerial bombs, NV correspondent Serhii Okunev reported from near the front in Donetsk Oblast.

Okunev said he could hear explosions from air-dropped bombs even though they were falling several kilometers away.

More detailed reporting on the fighting was provided by the 15th National Guard Brigade deployed in the area.

“I don’t see any difference between the situation yesterday, a week ago or today,” one of its officers said.

“In just half a day on May 8, the Russians have already carried out at least four waves of mass strikes with guided aerial bombs on the city of Dobropillia. All other enemy weapons are also being used. The enemy is also attempting to storm and attack with infantry today.”

Several NV sources on different parts of the front corroborated his account.

On May 4, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced a “ceasefire” for May 8–9 and threatened massive strikes on central Kyiv if Ukraine attempted to “disrupt Victory Day celebrations.”
