The channel said several government officials had also
placed orders but did not give names.
The owner of a manufacturing company told Shot that the
order backlog for personal shelters now stretches into the summer. Since early
March, orders have been arriving almost daily. Requests to install bunkers at cottages
and other country properties have increased about 2.5 times.
Prices start at about RUB2 million ($25,000) for a basic model, a reinforced steel cylinder for two people with minimal comforts, buried up to 5 meters with an air intake. Size and fit outs are customized for an additional fee: buyers can add space, a kitchen, a shower, a sofa and even a TV with a gaming console.
Luxury models cost at least RUB20 million ($250,000) and resemble an underground apartment. Builders first install reinforced concrete walls in the ground, as when constructing subway stations, and then cover the structure with an impact
Owners can also arrange a secure EMERCOM (Russia’s Ministry
of Emergency Situations) radio channel that would transmit an SOS signal from
the bunker in case of a major disaster. If outside air is contaminated, the
shelter can be sealed and run as an airtight capsule with circulated air,
allowing a large family to survive for several months.
