Russian drone strike on Kharkiv hits kindergarten, kills one and injures seven

Russian invaders launched a massive drone attack on Kharkiv, hitting a kindergarten in the Kholodnohirskyi district and sparking a fire on Oct. 22.

12:15 p.m. — Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared photos from the site of the Russian drone strike on a kindergarten in Kharkiv.

The president confirmed that all children had been evacuated and were in shelters. According to preliminary information, many were suffering from acute stress reactions.

“There is no and cannot be any justification for a drone strike on a kindergarten. It is clear that Russia is growing more brazen. These attacks are Russia’s slap in the face to everyone who insists on a peaceful resolution,” Zelenskyy said.

12:10 p.m. — Reports of injured children were not confirmed. Seven adults were wounded in the strike, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

11:40 a.m. — A 40-year-old man was killed and five people were injured in the Russian attack on Kharkiv, the regional administration said. Terekhov wrote that one person was killed and five others injured in a strike on a kindergarten.

11:36 a.m. — Two more people — a man and a woman — were reported injured in the Russian strike on Kharkiv. Both were hospitalized, and the woman was in serious condition with burns, said regional governor Oleh Synehubov.

11:27 a.m. — Four people were injured, one of them unconscious and in intensive care, Terekhov wrote.

Updated at 11:20 a.m. — Four people were injured in the Russian attack on Kharkiv, two of them in serious condition, Synehubov said. Terekhov reported that children were evacuated from the kindergarten and that a fire was ongoing.

The mayor said at least three explosions were heard in the city. Later, he reported that a private kindergarten in the Kholodnohirskyi district was hit, injuring small children. A fire broke out at the site, he wrote on Telegram.

Regional governor Synehubov also confirmed injuries but provided no details. Emergency services were dispatched to the strike sites.
