Moldova’s Foreign Ministry reacted to the crash of a Russian Gerbera-type drone in the Telenești district, saying such incidents pose a direct threat to national security and violate the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Realitatea reported on Jan. 18.

“The Republic of Moldova condemns such violations and condemns the Russian Federation’s aggressive war against Ukraine, which also endangers the security of our citizens. In light of these risks, the Republic of Moldova will continue to invest in peace and security to ensure the protection of the country and the safety of its citizens,” the ministry said.

Earlier reports said that on the night of Jan. 17 a Russian Gerbera-type drone fell on the territory of Moldova.

Moldovan police said that the drone, like previous Russian drones found on the country’s territory, did not contain explosives and posed no danger to people.

On Nov. 29, Moldova closed its airspace after Russian drones entered the country’s airspace. The move affected operations at three airports.
