The intrusion was detected through information exchange with Ukraine and Romania, according to local outlet NewsMaker. Moldovan monitoring systems failed to spot the UAV due to its low flight path.
The Foreign Ministry summoned Russia’s ambassador to deliver a “strong protest.”
Moldova’s Border Police had earlier detected a drone approximately 2 km from the state border.
Romania also scrambled four fighter jets after a drone briefly entered its airspace during the same massive Russian assault on Ukraine that involved 48 missiles and 476 drones of various types.
Explosions rocked Burshtyn in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast (home to a thermal power plant), Lviv, Ternopil, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi, and other oblasts. Lviv was shrouded in thick smoke after strikes on energy facilities and warehouses.
In Ternopil, the attack killed 25 people, including three children, and wounded 73, among them 15 minors.
