In September, Russian forces saw their highest average daily losses in the war against Ukraine, according to a British Defense Ministry intelligence report on Oct. 7.

British intelligence reported that Russia's daily front-line losses in September averaged 1,271 troops, surpassing the previous record of 1,262 set in May 2024, based on Ukrainian General Staff data.

The increase in casualties is attributed to expanded combat zones in the Kharkiv and Kursk oblasts, along with intensified operations along the front.

British analysts predict these losses will persist at around 1,000 troops daily through the winter, as Russian forces rely heavily on infantry tactics.

Ukrainian reports estimate Russia's total military personnel losses at 661,630 as of Oct. 7, 2024.
