Russian attack on Chernihiv damages homes and critical infrastructure

The Russian occupation army launched a combined strike with ballistic missiles and Shahed drones on Chernihiv at night, acting city mayor Oleksandr Lomako reported on Telegram on June 6.

Casualties have been reported in the city following a series of Russian shelling attacks. Residential buildings, critical infrastructure, and social facilities were damaged, according to local authorities.

Rescuers, medics, and municipal services are working at the sites of the shelling, said the head of the city’s administration, Lomako.

Later, Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv regional military administration (OVA), confirmed that the Russians had struck the city with Geran-2 drones, a cruise missile, and a ballistic Iskander-M missile. The attacks hit a residential area, damaging apartment buildings and private houses. One of the city’s enterprises and infrastructure facilities was also affected.

Four people were injured, one of whom was hospitalized. Chaus warned that there may still be people trapped under the rubble and reported power outages in residential buildings.

Earlier, on June 6, Dmitry Bryzhynsky, head of the Chernihiv MVA (Military Administration), reported explosions from ballistic missiles on the outskirts of the city and strikes from Shahed drones near high-rise buildings.

Massive attack on Ukraine

On the night of June 6, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, using Kalibr cruise missiles, missiles from strategic aircraft, ballistic missiles, and Shahed drones. An air alert was declared nationwide, with Kyiv particularly affected. Debris from the strikes fell in six districts of Kyiv, leaving four people dead and 20 others injured.

In Ternopil, Russian shelling resulted in partial power and water outages. Industry and infrastructure facilities were also hit, and five people were injured.

In Lutsk, Russian forces struck a high-rise building, injuring at least five people. Other oblasts, including Khmelnytskyi, Poltava, Lviv, and Kyiv, were also targeted by Russian strikes.
