Previously, DeepState reported that Russian troops were attacking Ukrainian defense positions in Vuhledar from the flanks.

"In recent days, the enemy has intensified actions in two areas—west of Pavlivka and near Vodiane," the analysts concluded.

“The aim is clear: to encircle Vuhledar because there have been hundreds of unsuccessful frontal assaults.”

ISW indicated in its Aug. 22 update that new geolocated footage suggests Russian forces recently captured Ptyche (southeast of Pokrovsk) and advanced further south.

According to analysts, the Russian army likely intended to advance west from the Karlivske Reservoir—from Yasnobrodivka and Karlivka—to encircle parts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces east of the Hrodivka–Novohrodivka–Selydove line. However, they did not achieve such success simultaneously with their advance south of Highway T-0511.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Aug. 27 that Russian forces continue to pressure in the Pokrovsk sector and are likely attempting to replicate their capture of Bakhmut. He suggested that Russian forces could suffer losses of 50,000 to 60,000 soldiers there.
