Analysts believe that Russian forces plan to employ this
approach during offensive operations in Ukraine in the summer and fall of 2025.
The report also notes that on April 26, Russia’s Defense
Ministry released footage purportedly showing soldiers from the 299th
(Airborne) Regiment of Russia’s 98th Airborne Division practicing offensive and
defensive tactics using motorcycles in groups of two to three at a training
ground in Russia.
“The footage suggests that Russian forces are likely
developing tactics for the systematic offensive use of motorcycles and may be
preparing to issue an increased number of motorcycles to Russian personnel in
Ukraine,” ISW stated.
Pavlo Shamshyn, a lieutenant colonel and spokesman for
Ukraine’s Kharkiv military grouping, noted that motorcycles allow Russian
forces to increase speed and maneuverability, which is critical for evading
Ukrainian drone strikes. However, he added that the loud noise of the
motorcycles prevents drivers from hearing approaching Ukrainian drones.
