Russian invaders continue to use remote mining tactics in contested areas, including Sumy Oblast, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy regional military administration on Jan. 26.
The Russians are dropping explosive devices from drones in small, light-colored bags that can be triggered by pressure or proximity.
“Due to recorded cases of such mining in areas adjacent to Sumy Oblast, I urge residents of Oblast to be especially vigilant when traveling on roads, particularly near border communities,” Hryhorov wrote.
If suspicious objects are discovered, do not approach them and immediately report them to police by calling 102.
On Jan. 12, Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov, head of the Center for Radio Technologies, said that an increasing number of cases of PTM-3 mines being dropped from Russian Shahed drones have been recorded in various oblasts of Ukraine.
