Russia again hits Kharkiv shopping mall with jet-powered drone

Russian forces struck a shopping mall in Kharkiv on Aug. 28, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported.

Updated at 4:04 p.m. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that a jet-powered drone struck a closed shopping mall in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district. A fire broke out and parts of the structure were destroyed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze despite the threat of repeat strikes.

Russian forces struck Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district, Kharkiv Oblast Gov. Oleh Synehubov said. Emergency services are working at the site of the strike.

Terekhov also reported that a Shahed struck the city’s Slobidskyi district, damaging six private homes, an administrative building and several cars. One person was injured.

At about 11 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Force reported jet-powered UAVs heading toward Kharkiv. Suspilne reported explosions.

On Aug. 27, Russian forces attacked Epicentr in Kharkiv’s Osnovianskyi district, killing one man and injuring five others. Prosecutors said the Russian military used a Geran-4 Seeker drone in the attack.

On Aug. 28, an attack on Epicentr in Zaporizhzhya was also reported, sparking a large fire.
