Ukraine's largest steel plant partially halts operations after deadly Russian missile strike

Thirteen employees of the company and its contractors were injured in the attack. Two other people were killed. Rescue and search operations are ongoing.

Firefighters, occupational safety officials, rescue workers and medical personnel are working at the scene.

The attack damaged key facilities used in the plant’s energy and blast-furnace operations, partially halting production. Specialists are assessing the extent of the damage and determining the feasibility and timeline for repairs.

“We emphasize that our company is a civilian mining and metallurgical facility, and we strongly condemn such treacherous enemy attacks,” the company’s press service said.

The plant was previously hit by a Russian missile strike in 2022. The attack destroyed its rolling mill and killed one employee.

Russian forces carried out a combined attack on Kryvyi Rih overnight Sunday, Aug. 16.
