Missile strike in Cherkasy causes damage but no casualties

Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Oblast Military Administration, reported on Telegram that a missile hit an open area in Cherkasy during a Russian attack early on Aug. 23.

The missile strike caused a fire in stored wood at the impact site, which was quickly extinguished. Debris from the missile damaged nearby private business buildings, shattered windows in a shop, and damaged several vehicles.

Additionally, a Russian Shahed drone was destroyed in the Cherkasy district.

There were no reported casualties from the attack in Oblast.

Air raid alerts were declared across several oblasts of Ukraine overnight on Aug. 22 due to the threat of ballistic weapons. Explosions were heard, particularly in Cherkasy Oblast. The Air Force stated that the Russian military attacked Ukraine with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and 16 Shahed-131/136 drones. Ukrainian air defense shot down 14 of the drones, while two were lost from radar.
