The mayor said two explosions occurred near a substation at about 7 a.m.
According to preliminary information, the television transmissions cable was damaged.
“No matter how hard Russian propaganda is trying to ‘brainwash’ our residents, they’re failing,” Fedorov said.
“The residents of Melitopol are holding the line, while the resistance forces are neutralizing everything rashist (Russian, a Ukrainian portmanteau of “Russian” and “fascist”).”
Ukrainian guerrillas are active in the area, blowing up a railway bridge near Melitopol on Aug. 13, resulting in its partial destruction.
According to Fedorov, the Russian military have begun to take families out of the town.
