Russian forces struck critical infrastructure in Chernihiv
early on April 17, sparking fires and knocking out power to about 6,000 users,
local officials said.
Chernihiv City Military Administration head Dmytro
Bryzhynskyi said the attack took place at about 3 a.m. Fires broke out at the
strike sites, and officials were still working to determine whether anyone had
been hurt.
Chernihivoblenergo said the attack damaged an energy
facility in the Chernihiv district, leaving part of the city without
electricity.
Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s civilian and energy
infrastructure throughout the war, causing civilian casualties and damaging
essential services. Ukrainian authorities say such strikes are part of a
deliberate campaign of terror against civilians.
