Russia attacking Odesa with ballistic missiles during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit shows that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is ready to escalate the war further, European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on March 6.

In a Twitter post, Borrell said that Putin clearly “disregards” the norms of foreign policy and warfare.

“The reckless air attack on Odesa when President Zelesnkyy and PM Mitsotakis were visiting, to pay tribute to the victims of the March 2 drone strike on a residential building, proves again Putin's disregard for any norms and his willingness to escalate,” he wrote.

The ballistic missile strike on Odesa occurred at around 10:45 a.m. on March 6, killing five people. It coincided with the visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the city, where he met with Zelenskyy ahead of a joint press briefing.

The Ukrainian military later said it has no evidence to suggest that Russian forces were trying to hit Zelenskyy’s motorcade in the strike.
