Russian invasion forces have advanced in the Toretsk sector of Donetsk Oblast, according to analysts from the DeepState monitoring group, who reported on Aug. 12.

Maps shared by DeepState show that Russian forces have advanced near Panteleymonivka, Pivnichne, New York, and the surrounding areas.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported late on Aug. 11 that, with air support, the Russian army attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses on the Toretsk front four times—near the settlements of Zalizne, Druzhba, and New York. According to the General Staff, two attacks were repelled, while two others are still ongoing.

The situation remains most intense near Pokrovsk, where Russian forces launched 30 attacks in a single day. Ukrainian forces are taking measures to hold their positions, the report stated.

Situation in Donetsk Oblast

The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported on July 30 that Russian troops were advancing intensively toward Pokrovsk and had made significant tactical gains.

On July 31, the Toretsk administration confirmed that the town remained under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, though DeepState reported fighting on the outskirts.

Former Aidar battalion company commander Yevhen Dykyi said on Aug. 6 that Russian forces had crossed the water barrier in Chasiv Yar, with fighting continuing in the town center after Ukrainian forces withdrew from the Kanal neighborhood in July.

On the same day, footage was posted online showing the Russian tricolor raised over a training building in the village of New York, Donetsk Oblast.

DeepState reported on Aug. 8 that Ukrainian defenders had pushed back Russian forces in New York village, but Russia had seized the village of Serhiyivka.

British intelligence reported on Aug. 9 that the Russian offensive had brought Pokrovsk 16 km closer to the current front line.
