Russian troops advance in Chasiv Yar after crossing canal — Deep State

The Russian army has advanced in Chasiv Yar, Donetsk Oblast, by crossing the previously impassable Siverskyi Donets-Donbas Canal, Deep State analysts reported on Aug. 4.

Donetsk Oblast situation

The Russian troops were attempting to advance on Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Selydove in Donetsk Oblast in June. They also aimed to capture a "vital highway" to Kostyantynivka.

Russia increased its offensive operations pace in Donetsk Oblast, intensifying attacks on the Toretsk-Horlivka front, an area witnessing little activity throughout 2024, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said on June 23.

The Russian forces launched an assault on Chasiv Yar from the Toretsk sector.

Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrew from the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar, Khortytsia operational-strategic group spokesperson Nazar Voloshyn confirmed on July 4.

The DeepState monitoring group reported on July 22 that the Russian forces advanced near near Chasiv Yar and Toretsk.

DeepState reported in July the Russian capture of Rozdolivka village and the occupation of Prohres, where Ukrainian Defense Forces were surrounded until July 25.

Russian troops recently advanced near Avdiivka and likely captured Yasnobrodivka and Lozuvatske villages, ISW reported on July 26.

Reports indicated that battles are underway on Toretsk outskirts on July 30.

ISW on July 30 wrote that Russian troops were moving intensively toward Pokrovsk and making significant tactical gains.

Toretsk administration on July 31 stated that Toretsk remains under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. DeepState reported fighting on the outskirts of the town.
