Röpcke clarified that Ukriane’s 15th National Guard Brigade ‘Kara-Dag’ had successfully fended off Russian attacks for the past few weeks. The defense forced the Russians to attempt an encirclement from the north and south of Selydove.
At the same time, enemy forces continued efforts to advance through the coal mine area northeast of the city. According to Röpcke, on Oct. 21, they managed to capture the mine and possibly enter residential areas in eastern Selydove.
“The Russian invasion army advance into eastern Selydove continues,” Röpcke said in a Twitter post.
“Kara Dag is killing many, but more are moving towards the central part of the city, while others keep executing a pincer move to encircle it. Same Russian tactic that worked with 10+ other towns.”
Since September 2024, military analysts have warned that Ukrainian troops in Selydove risk encirclement.
