Unable to win over the population in occupied Donetsk Oblast, Russian occupying forces have taken to jamming mobile communications to prevent the real-time sharing of the movements of Russian forces, said the Center for National Resistance (CNR) on Jan. 30.

The distrust of locals indicates the actual level of support for the occupation in Ukraine’s temporarily occupied territories, the CNR said.

Believing that locals will pass on sensitive information to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the occupying “authorities’ in Donetsk Oblast have resorted to jamming mobile communications. Ukrainians continue to pass along sensitive information despite the obstacles applied by the Russian forces because they patiently wait and believe in the region’s return to Ukraine, said the CNR.

On the southern front, the Russians prohibit hospital staff from using social media out of fears they might leak the actual number of injured Russian soldiers, the CNR reported on Jan. 30.
