Russians shell Kharkiv, striking university, Sumy Oblast also under attack

Terekhov said one of the city’s higher educational institutions was damaged as a result of the attack.

"Saltivskyi district was also shelled at night," Terekhov wrote.

“Destruction and debris at the site of the attack (on the higher educational institution) are being cleared by the State Emergency Service.”

Before that, late in the evening, the Russian military shelled the detached private house suburbs in Kharkiv’s Kyivskyi district with rockets.

Earlier, the Russian troops also attacked Nemyshlyanskyi and Industrialnyi districts of the city on Sept. 8. Two people were killed, and five more were injured.

Russia has intensified attacks on the city Kharkiv against the backdrop of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast.

The General Staff reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already liberated more than 20 settlements in the region and penetrated 50 kilometers into Russian-held territory.

Officially, it was not specified which settlements were liberated, but, according to open sources, the Armed Forces raised the flag of Ukraine in Balakliya, Verkhovyi Yar, Ivanivka, Borshchivka, and Shevchenkove. On the evening of Sept. 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the liberation of Balakliya.

Neighboring Sumy Oblast was also subjected to Russian attacks as three territorial communities were shelled by enemy mortars, Grad rocket systems, and grenade launchers, regional governor Dmytro Zhyvytskyy reported on Telegram on Sept. 8.

In the morning, 29 mortar and 20 multiple rocket launcher attacks were recorded in the Krasnopillia community in Sumy Oblast.

In the afternoon, the Russian army fired on the outskirts of Bachivsk in the Esman community with 20 mortar rounds.

The Znob-Novhorodske community recorded 8 mortar rounds and 15 shots from automatic grenade launchers.

"There is also information about a car that exploded on a mine in the Shostka district," Zhyvytskyy wrote.
