The sources said CDU-6, one of the refinery’s main units,
was shut down as a result of the strike. It had previously been taken offline
after another attack last month.
Several pipelines at the facility were also damaged in the
latest strike.
The refinery has three other major crude distillation units which
remain operational and could be used while CDU-6 is offline, according to the
sources.
The Ryazan refinery has an annual capacity of 17 million
metric tons, or about 340,000 barrels per day. It can produce 3.4 million
metric tons of gasoline and 3.8 million metric tons of diesel fuel annually.
Explosions were reported in the Ryazan region overnight into
Oct. 15, while the monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported a fire at the
refinery.
Regional Gov. Pavel Malkov confirmed a “massive attack” and
a fire on the refinery’s premises.
Also on Oct. 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told
the Financial Times that Ukraine was resuming strikes on Russian oil refineries
after Moscow refused to observe the “energy truce” U.S. President Donald Trump
announced on Oct. 11.
