Ukrainian forces struck Russia’s Samara oil depot and pumping station for the second time in a week, independent Russian outlet The Moscow Times reported on Oct. 7. The first strike on the facility occurred on Oct. 2.

Local Telegram channels reported a large fire at the facility after the attack and road closures in the area. They also published footage showing the aftermath of the attack.

There have been no official reports of the latest strike on the station. Earlier, Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed only the Oct. 2 strike on the Samara station.

The Samara station is Russia’s largest oil transportation and distribution hub. It is owned by Transneft. The facility covers more than 216 hectares and has 71 storage tanks with a combined capacity of more than 1.6 million cubic meters of oil.

Four major oil pipelines converge at the station: Almetyevsk-Kuibyshev, Kaltasy-Kuibyshev, Nizhnevartovsk-Kurgan-Kuibyshev, and Guryev-Kuibyshev. Oil from Western Siberia, Russia’s Tatarstan and Orenburg regions, and Kazakhstan is delivered to the station for further transportation.

The Supernova+ channel later reported that damage from the Oct. 2 Ukrainian strike on the Samara station, including the oil stored in its tanks, likely totaled about $200 million.
