Planet Labs provided two satellite images from Aug. 19 and Oct. 18 to Schemes, which highlighted the extent of damage to the airport. The most recent image shows scorch marks and other damage.
Nine Russian helicopters, an ammunition depot, an air defense system, and other equipment were destroyed in the strike carried by the Ukrainian military.
The attack was carried out using recently supplied ATACMS long-range missiles, marking the first time that the American weapons have been used in the war.
“The detonations in Luhansk lasted until 11 a.m. The enemy's personnel losses amount to dozens of killed and wounded. Bodies are still being recovered from the rubble," the Ukrainian Armed Forces said via a spokesperson.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy subsequently confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had used American ATACMS missiles equipped with cluster warheads in the attack.
