The State Bureau of Investigation has detained a Justice Ministry employee and her accomplice on suspicion of attempting to defraud a large agricultural enterprise, according to an Aug. 2 report.

The offender promised a representative of a regional budget-forming enterprise that they would enter information about the right to use agricultural land into the real estate register in exchange for $120,000.

The official reportedly enlisted her friend, a foreign national, to pose as an “influential official” from the same Ministry and act as a guarantor of the promises.

The suspects were detained after receiving the money, according to the SBI.

They are charged with attempting to seize property through conspiracy by a group of people, under martial law, and on a particularly large scale.

If convicted, the defendants face up to 12 years in prison.
