The Russians instructed the Odesa resident to pinpoint the locations of Ukrainian anti-aircraft systems to circumvent them during the attack. They were particularly interested in the coordinates of anti-aircraft missile installations along Odesa's coast and information on military vessels in local ports equipped with air defense systems.
The information gathered was intended to be used in planning further attacks on Odesa, including missile and drone strikes.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces were timely informed of the new aerial threat, allowing for the preparation of defensive measures.
The traitor's Russian handler was identified as the head of an intelligence group from the Russian military contingent based in temporarily occupied Sevastopol. He initiated collaboration with the Odesa woman in January 2024, leveraging her support for Russia's war on Ukraine.
The SBU has charged the detainee with state treason under wartime conditions, which could result in a life sentence.
A Russian missile exploded just 500 meters from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during an attack in Odesa on March 6, CNN reported.
