Explosive ordnance disposal experts found the dangerous item, Belgorod Oblast governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed. Russian Ministry of Defense sappers will neutralize it at a training ground.
“The operational headquarters has decided to evacuate 17 multi-story buildings within a radius of 200 meters. According to preliminary data, it is more than 3,000 people,” Gladkov said.
Those evacuated will be transported to temporary shelters that have been set up with food and water, and 90 transportation units have been allocated for this purpose.
Later, Baza reported that the FAB-500 bomb had penetrated seven meters into the ground.
On the evening of April 20, a Russian Su-34 bomber dropped the bomb on a residential district of Belgorod, presumably an explosive aerial bomb, making it the most prominent case of a Russian strike on its own territory.
