As many as 50-70% of residents in Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk oblasts will be without power at any given time on Aug. 27, Serhii Kovalenko, CEO of Yasno power utility company, said in a Facebook post on Aug. 26.

Kovalenko described the Aug. 26 Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s power grid as “the largest mass attack in two and a half years.”

“The full scope of its impact on the national energy system is still being determined,” Kovalenko wrote.

“This means that 50-70% of the population [in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts] will be without electricity simultaneously. Naturally, the system might become unstable and things could get worse, we’ll see.”
