A Ukrainian defender from Chernivtsi Oblast, Ruslan Mykhailiuk, who had been listed as missing since May 2025, was located receiving treatment in a hospital in Sumy Oblast, the Zastavna Town Council reported on March 20.

“Today we have the joyful news we’ve all been waiting for so long—especially the family and loved ones of Ruslan Vasyliovych Mykhailiuk,” said representatives of the town council.

“Since May 2025, the soldier had been considered missing in action. These months have been extremely difficult for his family, friends, and the entire community—we prayed together, supported one another, and never lost hope.”

Mykhailiuk is now undergoing medical care following injuries and related health issues, with a long recovery ahead.

Local Mykhailo Turok, who spoke with Mykhailiuk by phone, said the soldier has lost his memory, suffered concussions, partial vision loss and multiple other wounds. “Although he hasn’t remembered everything yet,” Turok added.

The Zastavna Town Council described the update as a true relief and joy for the community, which continues to stand with the defender and his family.
