Since late 2022, Spain has trained more than 5,000 Ukrainian servicemembers as part of the EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM), Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles announced on Aug. 27.

Speaking at a meeting with Ukrainian soldiers undergoing training in Toledo, Robles said that “Spain’s solidarity, support, and commitment to Ukraine have remained unwavering since the beginning of the Russian invasion.”

She noted the increasing brutality of the war, particularly “in these days when Ukrainian civilians are victims of attacks that are unacceptable from any standpoint, violating all norms of the laws of war and humanitarian law.”

“Spain is providing Ukraine with everything we can within our capabilities, and in terms of training, Spanish military personnel play an exceptionally important role,” said Robles.

“I am proud of their work and very grateful for their contribution.”

According to the minister, over 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers have undergone training in Spain, with around 2,500 Spanish instructors participating in the program.
