Olha Stefanishyna began her diplomatic mission as Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States on Sept. 15, she announced in a Twitter post.

She and the embassy team observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of fallen Ukrainian troops.

“We honored with a moment of silence those who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence and freedom,” Stefanishyna said.

“It is thanks to their sacrifice that we continue our diplomatic activities—defending sovereignty, strengthening partnerships, and striving for a just and lasting peace.”

On Aug. 27, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Stefanishyna as Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States.

Stefanishyna replaces Oksana Markarova, who served in the post since February 2021 after a tenure as Ukraine’s Finance Minister in 2018–2020.

Since September 2024, Stefanishyna has served as Ukraine’s Deputy PM for European and Euro-Atlantic integration and as Justice Minister.

In July, Zelenskyy appointed her special presidential envoy for developing cooperation with the United States.
