The mines had been torn from their positions by a storm and posed a serious threat to shipping and coastal communities. Navy units promptly located and neutralized the mines.
The military urged residents not to approach unidentified objects in the sea or onshore and to immediately report suspicious findings to the relevant authorities.
On Oct. 1, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported that nine people, including a child, were killed by a severe storm and flooding in Odesa.
Emergency crews worked through the night to evacuate residents stranded by floodwaters, remove submerged vehicles from the streets, pump water out of buildings, and search for a missing girl. Her body was recovered around 7 a.m. EET.
In total, 362 people were rescued, and 227 vehicles were evacuated. Some 255 rescuers and 68 pieces of equipment are still engaged in the operation.
