Strike on Kharkiv high-rise: Details on Russian attack emerge

On Sept. 15, Russian occupiers used guided aerial bombs (KABs) or FABs to strike Kharkiv, with one confirmed hit on a high-rise building. This information was provided by Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of the Kharkiv police, in a comment to Suspilne.

“The strike was carried out by tactical aviation from the Belgorod area. Currently, one hit on a high-rise building has been confirmed. A similar situation occurred not long ago,” Tymoshko explained.

He added that among the wounded, several people are in serious condition, but no children are among the critically injured. “There were about three additional strikes on the suburbs: near Tsyrkuny, in Ruska Lozova, and in the Tsyrkuny community. Overall, about five hits have been recorded,” Tymoshko reported.

Oleh Synehubov, head of the Kharkiv Oblast Administration, specified that at least six KABs were launched at Kharkiv and the surrounding area. “One entrance of a building has been destroyed. There is a fire on the ninth floor. At least 1,500 windows have been damaged. Dozens of cars are also damaged,” Synehubov updated.

The search and the rescue operation is ongoing, and people may be trapped under the rubble.

Sept. 15 Kharkiv attack

At 3:20 p.m., Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported explosions in the city. According to him, the enemy conducted repeated launches of KABs. Later, he reported that the Russians hit a residential high-rise building, causing a fire.

Commenting on the attack, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that nearly 30 people were injured, including children. “The world must help defend against Russian military aviation, from the dozens of guided aerial bombs that claim the lives of Ukrainians every day. This terror can be stopped…” Zelenskyy emphasized.

As of 5:00 p.m., there were 35 reported casualties from the Kharkiv shelling.
