Syrskyi promoted to full general

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has promoted Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi to the rank of General, the president’s press service announced on Aug. 23. Syrskyi previously held the rank of Colonel General.

In another decree published on the president's website, Zelenskyy promoted Major General Anatoliy Barhylevych, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to Lieutenant General.

Finally, Brigadier General Andrii Hnatov, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was promoted to Major General.

Syrskyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Feb. 8, 2024, succeeding Valerii Zaluzhnyi. On Feb. 9, Zelenskyy appointed Barhylevych as Chief of the General Staff.

Hnatov became Commander of the Joint Forces on June 24, 2024.
