There may be no just peace for Ukraine, Finland’s Stubb warns

“The reality is that peace can be either good, bad or some kind of compromise,” Stubb said in an interview with Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset.

“The reality is also that we Finns must prepare for the moment when peace comes, and all the conditions for a just peace that we have talked about a lot over the past four years will probably not be met.”

Stubb reiterated that Europe is working to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but that the coming days and weeks will show whether those efforts will bear fruit. He added he is skeptical that Russia will accept a peace plan agreed upon by Ukraine and the United States.

On Dec. 2, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, along with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, spent nearly five hours in a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov, commenting on the talks with the U.S. delegation, stated that the sides have not yet reached a compromise on the peace plan.

"There is no compromise version of the plan on Ukraine yet; some American proposals are acceptable to the Russian Federation, some are not," Ushakov stated.
