Three more US states recognize Holodomor as act of genocide against Ukrainian people

Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, shared this announcement on her Facebook page, expressing her appreciation for the solidarity shown by the governors of these states toward Ukraine.

Working in collaboration with the U.S. Holodomor Recognition Committee, the Ukrainian Embassy is actively engaged in efforts to encourage more states to acknowledge the events of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Currently, a total of 31 U.S. states have issued proclamations recognizing the Holodomor as an act of genocide.

In the wake of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, several nations officially acknowledged the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide committed against the Ukrainian people. Notable countries among them include the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Belgium, Ireland, Romania, Moldova, Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, France, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, and Croatia.

On Dec. 15, the European Parliament cast a vote in favor of a resolution acknowledging the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

2023 sees the 91st anniversary of the deliberate actions initiated by Soviet authorities in 1932 to confiscate grain and other essential food supplies from the residents of Ukraine. These actions led to the Holodomor, a tragic chapter in Ukrainian history and one of the most significant atrocities committed against the Ukrainian people. The Holodomor of 1932-1933 has been recognized as an act of genocide against Ukrainians by the Stalinist regime, both in Ukraine and in many other countries.
