Russian troops continue advances along several fronts, focusing operations west of Avdiivka and Mariinka, Donetsk Oblast. These sectors account for 60% of Russian attacks in the past months.
The average number of Russian ground attacks on Ukraine has decreased by 13% since late February 2024. While Russia captured Avdiivka and several surrounding villages, their advance has since slowed.
Ukrainian forces managed to exhaust the momentum Russian troops had after the fall of Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, stopping their advance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on March 11.
The New York Times previously reported that the Russian offensive near Avdiivka had stalled, in part due to troops’ exhaustion after months of fighting and the significant forces that Ukraine has deployed to defend the area.
