Russian strikes have damaged railway infrastructure in Sumy Oblast, causing significant delays and disrupting train services, the national rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia reported on Telegram early on Oct. 20.
Several intercity trains departed from Plisky station more than an hour late due to the need to replace locomotive traction.
Regional services have also been affected and are operating with reserve locomotives. Delays of one to two hours have been reported.
Earlier this month, Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine's Minister of Community, Territorial Development, and Infrastructure, said that Russian forces have carried out nearly 300 attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia facilities since August 2025 in an effort to disrupt Ukraine’s critical transport infrastructure.
On Oct. 7, Kuleba warned that Moscow was attempting to “paralyze the work” of the national railway operator.
