Trump called the Russian situation "horrible" and expressed hope for a settlement, citing 7,000 deaths last week alone.
"We settled seven wars. We're close to settling an eighth," the president said.
“And I think we'll end up settling the Russia situation, which is horrible. 7,000 people died last week, by the way.”
Trump's comments follow his Aug. 25 threat to "decisively intervene" in Ukraine if no progress toward peace occurs within two weeks.
On Sept. 6, he described ending the Russia-Ukraine war as far more complex than anticipated, while reiterating his claim of resolving seven conflicts and expressing confidence in stopping the Russian invasion.
On Sept. 15, Trump publicly labeled Russia the aggressor for the first time.
On Sept. 18, Newsmax CEO and Trump ally Christopher Ruddy said the president could get "much more aggressive" toward Russia for continuing the war against Ukraine.
Trump also noted on Oct. 7 that talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine have been tougher than those on Gaza, where a deal is "very close."
