The report says Trump has called journalists and given comments without consulting advisers, occasionally making loud or contradictory statements about the war and potential U.S. actions.
Sources told the WSJ that his closest aides have directly recommended limiting improvised interviews because they heighten the sense of instability and create problems for communication with allies and the public.
Trump does not always heed such warnings. According to sources, he sometimes jokes with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who learns important news only after it has already been published by journalists.
The article also notes that Trump occasionally agrees to reduce such media contacts but later returns to his usual style of communication.
