A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump is necessary but requires thorough preparation, with no specific plans confirmed, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on May 5, according to Russian media.
"Such a meeting is clearly on the agenda," the Kremlin spokesman said.
“In many ways, we believe it is, of course, necessary. It must be properly prepared, and this requires efforts at a variety of expert levels.”
There are no specifics on this issue yet, he added.
Putin is not scheduled to travel to the Middle East in mid-May amid reports that he may meet with Trump in Saudi Arabia, Peskov said.
On March 18, Putin and Trump held a second phone conversation to discuss the war in Ukraine. The conversation took place a week after the American and Ukrainian delegations agreed in Saudi Arabia on a 30-day ceasefire, which Russia rejected. The first call between the leaders took place on Feb. 12.
