“We’re forcing everyone away” with sanctions, former US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg published on July 16, discussing the possibility of eliminating the sanctions on Russia as part of the deal to end the war in Ukraine.

“I don’t love sanctions. I found them very useful with Iran, but I didn’t even need sanctions with Iran so much,” he said.

Trump has repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours” if he wins the presidential election.

“I know President Putin very well. I know Zelenskyy very well,” he said during a speech on Jan. 16. “We’re going to get it solved very quickly.”

He also said he “would have allowed” Russia to capture part of Ukraine and that the U.S. is sending too much weaponry to Ukraine.

He has stated that he would “allow” Russia to take over part of Ukraine and that the United States is giving Ukraine too many weapons.

The Washington Post reported in May that Trump said at a campaign event that he would bomb Moscow if it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine during his time in the Oval Office.

On April 9, Politico reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had rejected the idea, backed by Trump and his allies, that Kyiv could quickly end the full-scale Russian invasion by making large-scale territorial concessions.

“If the deal is that we just give up our territories, and that’s the idea behind it, then it’s a very primitive idea,” Zelenskyy said. “I need very strong arguments. I don’t need a fantastic idea, I need a real idea, because people’s lives are at stake.”
