The foreign delegation was briefed on the Coordination Headquarters’ main activities and on mechanisms for locating, identifying and returning prisoners of war and missing persons, as well as on cooperation with international organizations, the HQ said in a statement on May 27.
Dmytro Usov, secretary of the Coordination Headquarters, described how Belarusians are recruited into the Russian armed forces and how many have already been killed on the battlefield. He said Russia typically sends such mercenaries into high-risk assault operations.
Tsikhanouskaya spoke with Belarusian prisoners who had fought for Russia. She said their actions do not reflect the views of the Belarusian society and that opposition figures are working to prevent Moscow from drawing Minsk into a full-scale war.
“We are grateful to the Ukrainian people for their resilience and will continue to draw the international community’s attention to the crimes of regimes that disregard human life and human rights,” Tsikhanouskaya said.
Tsikhanouskaya arrived in Kyiv on May 25 on her first
visit and that day visited the grave of Belarusian volunteer Maria Zaitseva,
who was killed fighting for Ukraine. On May 26, she met with President
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said Kyiv supports Belarusians’ desire to free
themselves from Russian control and is aware of Moscow’s attempts to draw
Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine.
