According to Turkish news outlet NTV,
the tests were completed successfully. The Iron Dome was developed by Turkish
companies Aselsan, Roketsan, and Tübitak SAGE.
The air defense system consists of the Sungur surface-to-air
missile complex, the long-range SIPER air defense system, and a laser
installation.
Additionally, it is reported that the Turkish Iron Dome is
equipped with a “friend-or-foe” target identification system. It can launch
missiles simultaneously from eight launchers, each capable of firing six
missiles.
The SIPER-2 air defense system is said to be capable of
intercepting cruise missiles, fighter jets, air-to-ground missiles, drones, and
eventually ballistic targets.
Türkiye’s Defense Industry Director Haluk Görgün stated that
the SIPER system provides effective protection at long distances and high
altitudes, reinforcing the country’s goal of achieving full independent border
defense.
The Iron Dome is expected to enter service with the Turkish
army by the end of 2024.
