“Remember, the next visit [by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha] was to Syria, where Hakan Fidan, the Turkish foreign minister, and the Ukrainian delegation took part in three-way ministerial talks, and President Zelenskyy met with [Syrian President] Ahmed ash-Sharaa,” said Semyvolos.
“That clearly shows they discussed the situation in the Middle East and spent most of the time on that.”
Semyvolos added the Zelenskyy–Fidan trip to Damascus was obviously coordingated with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Because they [Zelenskyy and Fidan] departed from Turkish territory and the Turkish presidential plane was used, it’s clear that the Turkish president not only knew about it but helped facilitate it,” he said.
“This three-way meeting shows Turkey’s strong interest in forming that triangle.”
Semyvolos suggested that Zelenskyy flew to Damascus with
Fidan on the Turkish plane “for security and convenience.”
