Turkey ready to participate in second Global Peace Summit — Erdogan / The New Voice of Ukraine

Turkey is ready to participate in Ukraine’s second Global Peace Summit, expected to be held later this year, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sept. 26.

“We have said that we are ready to participate in this conference...,” Turkish outlet Hürriyet quoted Erdogan.

“We hope that we, as Turkey, will contribute to establishing peace in the region. We are probably the country most eager for a just peace in the Russo-Ukrainian war.”

According to the president, Turkey seeks peace and believes the war can be ended through diplomacy and negotiations, provided that both belligerents and other participants are committed to a peace settlement.

“Unfortunately, we are not close to this yet,” Erdogan added.

“We consider the fact that we can negotiate with both the Ukrainian and Russian sides an advantage on the path to peace. If we can navigate this difficult path and achieve our goal, we will provide a great service to humanity.”

The first Global Peace Summit, initiated by Ukraine, took place June 15-16 in Switzerland. Russia was not invited, while China declined to participate.

The summit saw 100 delegations, including 57 heads of state and government from all regions of the world.

On Sept. 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine plans to present a victory plan at the second peace summit, to be held in late 2024. Notably, Moscow would be invited to participate this time around.
