Ukraine’s SBU security service has uncovered a corruption scheme involving two logistics command officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the SBU reported on Nov. 20.

The investigation was conducted by the SBU and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), supported by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and top military commanders.

According to the report, in 2022 and 2023, the officials signed contracts to purchase spare parts for Ukrainian fighter jets at inflated prices. The investigation indicates that the parts were procured from a company with ties to the suspects.

To secure the contract, the officials allegedly involved several affiliated commercial entities, including those with foreign registrations, to create the illusion of a competitive bidding process, SBU stated.

The accused are suspected of defrauding the state of UAH 27.3 million ($662,000), funneled through a network of shell companies. If convicted, they face up to six years in prison.
